Building Trust in Sports Teams

Building Trust in Sports Teams

The work that happens before the wins. Building the trust that allows players to perform under pressure.
Clients I've worked with

Tactics and fitness only go so far. When the pressure peaks and the game is on the line, what determines the result is often something much harder to measure: whether the players genuinely trust each other, the coaches, and themselves. Building trust in sports teams is what turns talent into performance.

Ronan facilitates workshops designed to build that trust deliberately, rather than leaving it to chance. Through guided conversations, shared reflection and carefully held group experiences, players move past surface-level chat and into the real stuff. They learn what each teammate is fighting for, what they have come through, and what they need from the group.

The work has been delivered with Ireland Rugby, Leinster, Liverpool FC, the Dublin footballers and many grassroots clubs across Ireland. Sessions are tailored to where the team is in its season and can be one-off or season-long programmes.

"Having worked with Ronan over the course of 2 years, I would have no hesitation in recommending his programs to teams in any field. He took a group that was already quite successful and opened up room for improvement and growth that we probably didn’t realise was there. By connecting with each of us on an individual level, but never losing sight of our collective goals, his input was invaluable in unlocking our potential."

"I was fortunate to meet Ronan 3 years ago. Ronan was introduced to the Dublin Senior Football team in 2019. It was an extremely important year as the team were chasing history by becoming the first team to win 5 All Irelands in a row. Ronan’s part in formulating thoughts and discussions around the team's purpose and deeper meaning were hugely important to the team eventually achieving history. I have no doubt that Ronan’s work with the group was one of the key factors that allowed this group to perform at a higher level when the pressure was at its highest."

"Winning teams achieve peak performance in a few ways. By players feeling ok enough to be themselves, having robust relationships with teammates, and understanding each-others 'why'. Ronan’s witty, authentic and direct style allowed us to deeply tune in to all of the above. It helped us to foster a culture of honesty and cohesion for the season ahead."

"Ronan facilitated a ‘Team Connection’ workshop with our Women’s U17 Drogheda United team. We were hoping for a team bonding experience but we were blown away at how brilliant the workshop went. Ronan helped the team to open up with each other about their motivations, ambition and goals, to help them have a better understanding of each other and a shared vision as a team. The impact that was made that evening has been visible in our football performances and we can see a real togetherness in our team ever since. Ronan showed a great ability in helping the girls to open up and he created a safe, comfortable environment for them to be able to do so. The workshop was extremely beneficial and I would highly recommend it to other teams."
